I'm safely in India and it has been a rough start! My first day here was good. I slept until 2:30 pm (because of the time change) and went to a staff member's home for dinner and met some of the awesome people I will be working with. My apartment is adorable and I can tell it will be a sacred space for me during this next year.
The next day I got sick and started throwing up (I think because of the water, even though it is filtered)... then woke up again in the middle of the night sick again. So I ended up spending all of Tuesday (9 hours) in a hospital! What an experience-- i'll just leave the details out. I did get some fluids and antibiotics. I was a little disappointed because I was excited to get to go to the office and get set up. My roommate is a trooper and sat at the hospital with me all day! I felt so bad, but they said it happens to every person that comes at least once.
I finally slept through the night and feel like a new person today! Finally getting settled in, feeling way better and hopefully going to learn my way around the neighborhood soon. I can tell adjusting to this culture is going to be hard and is going to take a while, so i'm working on giving myself grace and not seeing things as weird (because that's just how things run around here).
The contradiction of the slow-paced life with the chaos of the city is a strange thing to get used to, but i'm sure by the end of my time here I will love it!
